Shopping for New Clothes - My Birthday Present

My mom is the best! Last weekend I turned 50, how the heck did I get to be 50? Wasn’t I just turning 40? Better yet how did my mom get to be 68?

For my birthday, I didn’t want a party so my mom took me shopping. She took me shopping because she knew if she gave me the money I would spend it on the house and not myself. She was willing to spend up to $100 per decade. We went to JC Penney’s and they have great deals and a great selection for those of us who need a larger then a size 14. At Penney’s I got 2 skirts and 3 pairs of nice pants. I also bought 4 basic tees, 2 more dressy tees and a jersey cardigan. We went to Lane Bryant and got a pair of dark wash jeans and nice orange blouse. To round out the day we hit Famous Footwear and I got two pairs of wedges – one black & one brown. EVERYTHING was on sale! If we paid the retail price on the tags it would have been $616 and on sale it was $431. I have never spent that much at one time on myself. I think it is time to start treating me to nice clothes and not just pick up a piece when the inner thighs wear out at Wal-Mart.

Next on my list – new under garments and a hair cut.

A Rabbit Run

We own two rabbits, or my oldest daughter owns the rabbits. One is a lop-eared honey colored sweetheart named Honey Bunny. We got her from a person I work with whose granddaughter’s mother was making the girl get rid of. Honey Bunny had been an apartment rabbit and was overweight. We allowed her go in our backyard and just run and graze and hide. She even started to loose weight. The second rabbit is a huge albino New Zealand Rex. My daughter brought him home from school; she is studying to be a veterinary tech. She had him fixed and when she tried to introduce him to Honey Bunny, he bit her and ripped a big hole in her backside. Because they don’t get along, only one gets to go out back at a time.

Until recently the system works out pretty well. Because we have a large lot (1/3 of an acre) my husband has started a vegetable garden and therefore no more free rain for the rabbits. He bought some rabbit fence and we ran it from the length of the yard and then it was divided in half. Each rabbit gets about 600 square feet of space. Both rabbits are very happy with their rabbit run.

We now just need to come up with some type of shelter for the rabbits to hid in at night and during the heat of the day.

Sitting by the fire

Today we had beautiful Arizona weather; sunny and temps in the high 60s to low 70s.

I got home from work and prepared some pork chops to cook on the grill. I trimmed up some asparaguses and cut up some brussel sprouts to roast in the oven. I then went out back and started a fire in our fire pit. I really meant to make dinner, but my husband cooked the chops on the grill and made a noodle dish. It was so nice to sit out by the fire pit. Last winter that was my refuse when I got home from work – sitting by the fire reading, drinking a glass (or two) of wine and just relaxing.

With rain comes weeds

It has rained more in Phoenix so far this year than all of last year (I think that is what I heard on the news). Anyway, with the rain we get weed – lots and lots of weeds.

When we moved in 2004, my husband wanted more then a postage size lot that dots the landscape here and NO HOA. We found a house in a part of Glendale, AZ with 1/3rd of an acre and no HOA. My son, who is now 20, is our lawn mower person. For the past two weeks he has been working 10 hour days with my husband remodeling a bathroom during the week. The last two weekends it has rained so he couldn’t get the lawn cut.

Well, I got home from work yesterday and couldn’t stand it any more. I don’t mind cutting the grass – I really don’t. I just can’t get the mower started. I had my oldest daughter get the darn thing started and then I proceeded to cut the weeds. The yard looks sooo much better. My body is sore because it was a lot of yard (and I just did the back).

I hope it doesn’t rain this weekend, I have two cookie booths tomorrow and one on Sunday.

Cookie booths and rain do not mix

Yesterday, we had a cookie booth at a local Fry’s grocery store from 8 am to noon. This is generally a good store and quite busy. I have come to expect it to be slow from 8 am to 10 am and then to pick up after that. But yesterday is rained; in fact it was raining in Phoenix most of the night before. So, we had a cold wet cookie booth and only sold 83 boxes in 4 hours. All I can say is I can say is “At least it was not snowing”.

After the booth, I was cold all day.
